MITSUYE YAMADA is the author of CAMP NOTES &
OTHER POEMS
, DESERT RUN: POEMS & STORIES, and
SOWING TI LEAVES: WRITINGS BY MULTICULTURAL
WOMEN
.  The Los Angeles Times writes that Ms Yamada's
"reflections of the camp are vivid, pain-filled, weighted with
irony...She confronts the 'invisibility' of Asian American women
in American culture."  With fellow poets Sarie Sachie Hylkema
and Janet Jue, she founded The Multicultural Women Writers of
Orange County (California) in 1980, a writing group that is now
over 20-years-old.  The subject of the Academy Award-
nominated film, " Mitsuye & Nellie: Asian American Poets,"
Ms. Yamada has been honored with numerous awards as one of
the most influential Asian American writers and activists of our
time.
THE MITSUYE YAMADA PAPERS, a special archival
collection, are housed at the libraries of the University of
California, Irvine.  Ms. Yamada, a former member of the Board
of Directors of Amnesty International, is the proud grandmother
of Chinese adoptee Mia Aiqian Yamada-Heidner.
