BOARD MEMBERS
DR. MEI-MEI AKWAI ELLERMAN, a Chinese adoptee, was a
former professor of Italian Literature for 30 years at Boston area
institutions, including Harvard, Brandeis, Boston College, Brown
and Wellesley College. Following her adoptive mother's death,
she turned to full time research and writing, first as Visiting
Scholar at the Wellesley Centers for Research on Women, and
since 1998 as Resident Scholar in the Brandeis Women's Studies
Research Center. She is also a Research Associate in the
Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at
Wellesley College. Dr.Ellerman has been involved since its
founding in 2002, with the Polaris Project, leading anti-human
trafficking NGO in the US and Japan, co-founded and
co-directed by Katherine Chon and her son, Derek Ellerman
(
www.PolarisProject.org). Ellerman serves on the Board of
Directors, is the Coodinator of the Polaris Project Boston
Chapter, and runs the bi-annual Vermont Freedom Walk to raise
awareness of modern day slavery. She is also a member of the
International Advisory Board for the A.G. Bell Association for
the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Mei-Mei Ellerman earned her
doctorate from Harvard University, and is currently working on
two memoirs,

life story.
